
A Level Music
Music is a powerful and versatile art form that can move and inspire people of all ages and backgrounds. By studying Edexcel A-Level music, students will have the opportunity to delve into the world of music and develop a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of its many elements. From the study of classical masterpieces and contemporary compositions, to the creation of their own music, the Edexcel A-Level music syllabus is designed to challenge and stimulate them to explore the full range of music's potential. They will develop their musical skills and knowledge, refine their critical and analytical abilities, and gain a rich and diverse musical education that will enrich their lives in countless ways. Our A-level curriculum is superbly supported by the opportunity to participate in a wide range of co-curricular musical ensembles, as well as providing enrichment through regular trips and workshops. Our A-Level students perform regularly throughout the year both in the school and in the wider community. They will also act as mentors and role models for students further down the school. Students studying A-level music will have full access to two fully equipped music ICT suites as well as a dedicated recording studio.
Course Breakdown
Performing (30%) An 8-minute recital which can include solo and ensemble works
Composing (30%)
One composition of 4 minutes and two chorale harmonisations
Appraising (40%)
Thirteen set works which are examined in a 120-minute written listening exam.
