Learning outside the classroom is an important part of all students’ education and we strive to offer frequent opportunities for student to participate throughout their time at Thomas Hardye School.

At Hardye’s we coordinate a wide range of trips and visits for students each year. These can include curriculum-based residential trips such as Geography trips to Iceland and Sicily, History trips to Paris and London and Science trips to London.

The Science and Geography departments take students on field trips for coursework and the English and Drama department run theatre trips and visits.

The school has an excellent Music department that organises regular extracurricular opportunities, and there is also a debate club, open to all, which competes nationally.

Many departments in the school organise for students to attend lectures and study sessions designed to support examination groups. In addition, we run activities of a more recreational nature such as an annual ski trip, expeditions as part of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme, and a trip to Florida that takes place in the February half term for Year 11.

The PE department regularly take students to other schools to participate in sporting fixtures, and our extensive Combined Cadet Force go out frequently for manoeuvres and other related activities.

The school uses ParentPay as our preferred method of payment for school trips.

We use the Evolve platform to record trips and for risk assessment purposes, and all residential trip risk assessments are additionally checked by the council advisor.

Financial support

The Thomas Hardye School is committed to doing everything it can to help students overcome financial barriers that might prevent them having the same opportunities as their peers. As such:

• a 25% discount will be applied to all trips for students eligible for Targeted FSM. These students will also be provided with resources like textbooks that they need for school from the Pupil Premium funding that the school receives.
• a 10% discount will be applied to all UK trips for students eligible for Expanded FSM.
• there is a form at the bottom of this page, or available from the school office, for anyone to complete to apply for financial support if they are struggling to pay for a trip. Anyone can apply, but each application will be considered on a case-by-case basis by Senior Leaders, taking into consideration how much funding the school has available.
